CCTV Alone Insufficient as Evidence of Crimes, Nawakara Introduces Integrated Security System

Jakarta – The enhancement of security in various public places, including industries, companies, and community facilities in general, is equipped with CCTV systems to enhance security within their environment, in addition to utilizing the services of security personnel (Satpam).

However, the presence of CCTV systems has proven inadequate in preventing criminal activities. CCTV systems have limitations in preventing crimes and violence that occur spontaneously. Furthermore, another weakness of CCTV systems is that recordings can often be considered tampered with.

Reflecting on a recent case of a child drowning in a swimming pool, there was no immediate emergency response after the incident occurred. This demonstrates the limited capability of CCTV systems in preventing crimes. There is a need for comprehensive security systems in various locations, not just relying on CCTV. Quoting forensic psychology expert Reza Indragiri Amriel, CCTV is considered insufficient as evidence to prevent crimes. Hence, a comprehensive security system is highly required.

In response to this, Nawakara’s Deputy CEO & Transformation, Satria Djaya Najamuddin, explained the importance of security assessments and integrated security in the field to effectively prevent undesirable incidents in the security process.

“The completeness of security systems is crucially applied in various locations to ensure comprehensive crime prevention. Therefore, security assessment is the initial crucial determinant in providing an integrated and fit-for-purpose security solution. Through security assessment, companies or other security premises can gain an understanding of security vulnerabilities in a security process,” explained Satria Djaya on Wednesday, February 21, 2024.

“Security technology itself requires an integrated security system between physical security personnel and reliable digital system innovations. It’s not just about guarding but also involves knowledge of security technology operation, swift and precise response, up-to-date monitoring systems with current technology, as well as knowledge and experience in detecting, preventing, and slowing down security risks to ensure the protection of humans and assets. In this regard, Nawakara has an integrated security system starting from physical security, digital patrols, electronic security systems, and command centers,” continued Satria.

There are several elements within Security Measures & Devices that can support CCTV and implement Integrated Security Solutions to anticipate various crimes in various places, including:

  1. Determining CCTV; Installation As an initial step, determining the boundaries that need to be secured through perimeter techniques (the outer boundary of enclosed areas or protected areas) is crucial. Once done, CCTV systems can be implemented to record suspicious activities as evidence. The next step is the application of access control systems. Through this system, only specific individuals with authentication/authorization can access locations or rooms within the company.
  2. Identifying Every Visitor; Visitors must be identified and well-documented. In case of any undesirable incidents, we can quickly ascertain the identity or contact the visitors. Therefore, the Visitor Management System plays a significant role in documenting and identifying every visitor or guest who arrives. In case of intruders or unauthorized access, security personnel can utilize intruder alarm systems and security lighting to detect such incidents. This system will provide signals in the form of alarms that will activate if sensors detect movement or body heat in areas where these systems are installed.
  3. Integrate Physical Security and Technology; Aside from relying on technology, it is necessary to have a rapid response team continuously monitoring areas covered by CCTV. Therefore, a Security Operation Center (SOC) or Command Center is highly needed to ensure company security. Through SOC, officers can conduct in-depth security measures by detecting, analyzing, and responding to both cyber and non-cyber security incidents.Don’t forget to also implement disciplined security patrol schedules as a measure to maintain order and security in the environment.

Certainly, threats and challenges will vary and be tailored to the resources, facilities, equipment, environment, and stakeholders of each company. At least, by implementing these measures, it is hoped that all activities and potential security disruptions can be monitored, detected, prevented, and provide protection for all company assets, including humans and objects/goods.
