Blue and white. These two colors might be the first thing that appears in your mind when talking about security guard uniforms in Indonesia.
The blue pants and white shirt – along with blue pants and blue shirt, depending on the workplace of the security guard in question – are the color combinations that were chosen by Awaloedin Djamin more than 40 years ago, when the security guard in Indonesia was established.
Blue pants and white shirts were used by security guards that work in an office space or an indoor space in general. While blue pants and blue shirt were used by security guards that work outdoors.
Though there is no data about the number of security guards working indoors or outdoors, it seems that security guards working indoors are more commonly found in daily lives.
Hence, the color of blue pants and white shirt of their uniform become the one more closely associated with the color of security guard uniform
The two colors that have become our top of mind when talking about security guard uniforms in Indonesia all these years.
Lately though, you might’ve come across a security guard wearing a light brown shirt and dark brown pants that could be quite confusing as those two colors were used by the Indonesian National Police in their uniform.
This confusion was the reason that in early 2022 another change was made to the color of the security guard uniform in Indonesia.
Though the color of their pants stays dark brown, the color of their shirt was changed to beige/cream that was first shown in the annual celebration of security guard establishment in Indonesia.
So, what are the official colors of security guards right now? What’s the reason behind those changes and are there different kinds of security guard uniforms in Indonesia?
Changes in Security Guard Uniform
The opening of the 41st birthday of the Security Guard that was held early in 2022 at Bhayangkara Field, Police Force General Headquarter (Markas Besar Polisi Republik Indonesia), or Mabes Polri, reveals the new color of security guard uniform.
The new color in question is beige, which changed the color of their shirt from light brown, which in turn, was just recently regulated in 2020 through the Indonesian Police Regulation No. 4 of 2020 or Perpol No. 4 of 2020 that changed the old[er] uniform color of blue and white.
One of the reasons for the changes in color of security guard uniform to light brown shirt and dark brown pants is to create an emotional attachment between security guard and the police.
The light brown color of their shirt was made 20% lighter than the light brown color of the police shirt to differentiate the two uniforms. Obviously apart from other things such as attributes worn and its placements.
While technically a different color, it wasn’t enough for people to differentiate between the two uniforms and because of that, the new beige color was chosen as mentioned above.

Special Outdoor Service Uniform (PDL SUS)
The second type of uniform is the Special Outdoor Service Uniform (Pakaian Dinas Lapangan Khusus), or PDL SUS that are worn by the security guard for outdoor work in their workplace or work area such as shopping malls, residential complexes, offices, and retail shops.
Unlike the PDH uniform, the headdress worn by security guards wearing PDL SUS is a field cap (fieldcap) with a long sleeve shirt.
While the PDL SUS footwear are black daily service shoes with black daily service socks for both male and female security guards.
The PDL SUS are also worn with attributes such as monogram, name tag, security guard ribbons, etc.
First Outdoor Service Uniform (PDL Satu)
The next type of uniform is called the First Outdoor Service Uniform (Pakaian Dinas Lapangan Satu), or PDL Satu. The PDL Satu are worn by security guards working outdoors in their workplace or work area such as the oil, gas and mining industry or plantations.
Using field caps as their headwear along with a long sleeve shirt, the PDL Satu uniform looks quite similar with the PDL SUS uniform. One of the differences between these two uniforms could be seen by its pants.
