Q: What is the role of a COO at Nawakara?

A Chief Operating Officer’s main mission is to ensure project productivity in line with the annual business plan, aligned with contracts from each client, and functional management with regional support to support sustainable business growth. Additionally, they ensure that every aspect of project operations complies with regulatory rules.

In terms of responsibilities, a COO is accountable for the business aspects of each project, budget control, collaboration of man and machine aspects in every project’s operation, ensuring accurate and timely project data, ensuring smooth project delivery in line with regulations, and conducting vertical supervision (monitoring and control) and horizontal coordination.

The last aspect mentioned, supervision and coordination, plays a key role in operational management. Horizontally, delays in one directorate can affect other directorates. Vertically, the coordination reporting hierarchy, starting from the Regional Manager/Department Head, General Manager Regional Office/Division Head, up to the Chief Operating Officer’s supervision, should be able to function effectively.

Q: What challenges does a COO face?

Challenges in operational areas can be categorized into internal and external challenges.

The main challenge internally in any organization is how to run an effective business process. Examples include how every operational element can understand the objective of a project so that each member knows exactly what they are doing and its impact. Another aspect is ensuring capacity and capability.

Therefore, once again, good communication and coordination within operational directorates and across directorates are key to ensuring an effective organization.

External challenges can come from business competition, clients or potential clients, and operational incidents.

Some things done to address external challenges include educating clients and potential clients that security is not a cost but an investment. This way, together with Nawakara, clients and potential clients have a holistic understanding of securing their company’s assets.

Another action taken regarding incidents that occur on projects, such as sabotage, is to implement the previously explained hierarchical control, communication, and coordination.

Q: What incidents most commonly occur in project operations?

The most common and often complained about incident by clients and potential clients is trespassing. This violation occurs when individuals enter premises without invitation, or permission, and/or are not registered in the security system.

These individuals may have various motives, such as committing vandalism, theft, or sabotage, and even violent threats. However, not only criminal acts, these individuals may also be local residents passing through or entering the area to request something from the company.

Trespassing incidents are the most common in a project because they are related to the established security system perimeter.

Q: What is the optimal security system solution?

Solutions to maintain the perimeter and address trespassing threats include the Visitor Management System, Access Control, Alarm System, and CCTV.

The Visitor Management System is a security system that can regulate and monitor everyone entering/exiting an area.

Meanwhile, Access Control is the gateway for the mobilization of people, vehicles, and goods. Access Control can be set at the appropriate number of points according to the secured perimeter area. It is usually separated between access for people, vehicle access, and loading/unloading access for goods. Access granted varies, from employees, and guests, to vendors.

Alarm Systems and CCTV are components that are also inseparable from perimeter security. CCTV functions as a tool to monitor, and the Alarm System triggers if action is needed.

All these systems are then controlled through a Command Center. When there is a trigger from the Alarm and CCTV, a pre-coordinated response process occurs, both for security personnel and local police.

In Nawakara, an integrated system like this is our main target. An Integrated Security Solutions that can optimize security on various objects.

Q: What are the advantages of an Integrated Security System?

In Nawakara, security based on Security Risk Assessment (SRA), human (man-based), machine/technology (machine-based), and security system elements monitored through a Command Center form a unity called Integrated Security Solutions, where these elements complement each other.

But not only integrating these security elements, more importantly, Nawakara personnel also foster and maintain a security culture, providing an understanding to stakeholders that security is a part of all of us. Because when we talk about security, we are not just talking about the perimeter, but also coordination with local stakeholders so that we can quickly obtain information and prevent security threats appropriately.

With this approach, Nawakara has a competitive advantage in terms of operations, ensuring security can run more optimally, in line with the business plans of each client.
